Youthswim

Age Range: 6 months – 3 years with Parent

In this parent-child category, children learn to be comfortable in the water. We focus on developing swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences. Parents also learn essential skills including how to best supervise children in the water, how to prevent accidents, and how to plan for emergencies.

Age Range: Preschool (3–5 yrs.), School-Age Youth (6–12 yrs.)

Students develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water in stage 1. This stage lays the foundation that allows for a student’s future progress in swimming.

In stage 2, students focus on body position and control, directional change, and forward movement in the water while also continuing to practice how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water.

Age Range: Preschool (3–5 yrs.), School-Age Youth (6–12 yrs.)

In stage 3, students learn how to swim to safety from a longer distance than in previous stages in the event of falling into a body of water. This stage also introduces rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg action.

Age Range: Preschool (3–5 yrs.), School-Age Youth (6–12 yrs.)

Students in stage 4 develop stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and learn the breaststroke kick and butterfly kick. Water safety is reinforced through treading water and elementary backstroke.

Age Ranges: School-Age Youth (6–12 yrs.)

Students in stage 5 work on stroke technique and learn all major competitive strokes. The emphasis on water safety continues through treading water and sidestroke.

In stage 6, students refine stroke technique on all major competitive strokes, learn about competitive swimming, and discover how to incorporate swimming into a healthy lifestyle.

Ages: 13-18

Learn to swim with others your age. The class is tailored to the needs of the participants. Our staff works with teens to boost confidence in the water and to build endurance and technique, so that teens can be safe in the water and develop skills to enjoy this lifelong sport!

Swim Stroke & Technique Mini Camp

Build confidence and refine skills in our Swim Mini Camp! This is a focused, one-of-a-kind opportunity for swimmers ages 6+ who are at swim lesson Stage 6 or higher, or currently on a swim team. Each day focuses on one key component: Monday is freestyle with starts, Tuesday is backstroke with flip turns, Wednesday is breaststroke with finishes, Thursday is butterfly with relay starts, and Friday brings it all together.

Youth Aquatic Conditioning

Ages: 6-12

Our Aquatic Conditioning program offers young swimmers an opportunity to continue swimming beyond swim lessons before making the leap to competitive swimming. The program focuses on continuing to build endurance and stroke technique in all major competitive strokes and encourages swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle. Swimmers can choose to swim once or twice per week.

Program runs on a monthly basis.

Private Swim Lessons

Ages: 3 – Adult

The Y staff will be happy to work with you and your family in small groups or individually.

Private and Semi-Private lessons are booked through Brittnee Toro, Aquatics Director. Interested students should fill out a questionnaire which assists us when placing students with an instructor. Please be advised that private and semi-private lessons are booked through the beginning of August. In the interim, you may wish to consider a group lesson.
