My biggest success so far has been feeling less joint pain. I can squat down and it's getting easier to get back up! I'm feeling stronger, less stiff, and my balance has improved - I feel steadier on my feet. The more I move, the better I feel!
I've seen an increase in stamina, balance, muscle tone, and confidence. I'm learning to listen to my body, know my limits, and avoid pushing too hard to prevent injury.
Since starting this program, I've gained energy, confidence, and a true sense of community and support. I used to find the gym intimidating-planks, squats, and lifting felt silly and boring. But now, just five and a half weeks in, I actually look forward to the workouts! I've learned proper form for squats, planks, wall sits, and lifting, and I'm building trust in my body and what it can do. I've overcome that mental hurdle, and it’s been so motivating!
The Taking Shape program has been exactly what I need. I went from at-home workouts that were inconsistent at best, to going to bed excited to wake up for an early morning workout. The sense of community at the Y is amazing. My nutritionist, Lauren, and trainer, Lisa, are very inspiring, encouraging, and knowledgeable. They are helping me move in the direction of my goals and I am getting stronger and more confident with each workout. I love my one on one sessions with Lisa and there is something magical about the small group workouts. Nothing beats our teamwork and group synergy. We cheer each other on at every workout and hold each other accountable. We have even started to get together outside of the gym to walk, hike, kayak, and more. Todd's mindset workshops are incredible, too. I love the Y and I highly recommend the Taking Shape program to anyone who is ready to transform their body and mind!
I was diagnosed with osteoporosis and was told that I needed to work on weight loss and a better diet in addition to taking a weekly medication to reduce the risk of bone fractures and pain. I started the medication and also took part in the Taking Shape programs over the past year and in doing so, was able to improve my condition enough that I have moved from osteoporosis to the less severe stage of osteopenia in all but one category. The biggest improvement was in my spine which I was told was an exceptional achievement.
